If you’re heading to The Utility Expo in Louisville this October, chances are you’ll be putting in long days walking the show floor, checking out equipment, and talking shop. When the day wraps up, you’ll want good food, a drink that’s worth your time, and maybe a place to relax with your crew.
Louisville delivers on all of the above. From barbecue and bourbon to late-night spots and strong coffee, here’s a solid list of places to eat, drink, and recharge while you’re in town.
Southern Favorites & Full Plates
Jack Fry’s
1007 Bardstown Rd
This Louisville staple has been around since the 1930s and still holds up. It’s known for steaks, shrimp and grits, and a classic Southern atmosphere. Ideal for a client dinner or a quieter night out with quality food and strong drinks.
The Eagle
1314 Bardstown Rd
This spot specializes in Southern classics with a focus on fried chicken, mac and cheese, spoonbread, and collard greens. It's casual, welcoming, and consistently praised for bold flavors and generous portion sizes. Great bourbon selection too, ideal after a long day at the show.
La Bodeguita de Mima
725 E Market St (NuLu)
A Cuban restaurant with a big personality—colorful décor, an outdoor patio, and a menu full of bold dishes like ropa vieja and plantains. The rum bar is well-stocked, and the vibe stays lively into the evening.
Quick, Casual, and Worth the Stop
Feast BBQ
909 E Market St
Feast keeps it simple: pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese, and bourbon slushies. Order at the counter and find a seat. It’s fast, reliable, and great after a long day on your feet.
Royals Hot Chicken
736 E Market St
If you’re craving Nashville-style hot chicken, this spot is one of the best in town. Choose your heat level, grab a side of fries or slaw, and you’re good to go. Great for lunch or a no-frills dinner.
An Authentic Bourbon Experience
Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar
127 W Main St (Whiskey Row)
This place combines smoked meats, seafood, and one of the strongest bourbon lists in the city. It’s located right downtown and is a solid choice for groups.
Old Forester Distilling Co.
119 W Main St
A well-run tour that covers the entire bourbon-making process—mashing, distilling, barreling, and bottling—all in one facility. Ends with a tasting, and the gift shop is worth a stop.
Angel’s Envy Distillery
500 E Main St
Known for its port barrel–finished bourbon, Angel’s Envy offers a clean, modern tour with a knowledgeable staff. The tasting experience is short, smooth, and well done. Book in advance if you’re going during the show.
Breweries & Cocktail Bars
Against the Grain Brewery & Public House
401 E Main St (at Louisville Slugger Field)
A local brewery with a laid-back vibe, solid burgers, and a wide range of beers—some traditional, some experimental. Indoor and outdoor seating make it a good choice for winding down.
Hell or High Water
112 W Washington St
Tucked away behind an unmarked door, this cocktail lounge is polished but unpretentious. Good for small groups who want to end the night with a well-made drink in a quieter setting.
Late-Night Spots
Merle’s Whiskey Kitchen
122 W Main St
Right on Whiskey Row, Merle’s offers live music, a large bourbon selection, and a lively crowd. Open late and always busy during trade show weeks. In addition to drinks, Merle's serves Southern comfort food like hot chicken, tacos, and brisket sandwiches - so grab a bite while you're in town.
The Silver Dollar
1761 Frankfort Ave
Housed in a former firehouse, this bar has a strong bourbon list and a country-western feel. Solid late-night food and a good place to post up for a few rounds.
Howl at the Moon
434 S 4th St
High-energy dueling piano bar that draws a crowd. Not for quiet conversation, but if you’re looking for music and a little chaos, this is it.
Zanzabar
2100 S Preston St
An eclectic mix of arcade games, craft beer, and live music. Open late, casual, and popular with locals and visitors alike.
4th Street Live!
Downtown Louisville
A block-long entertainment district with bars, clubs, and live music. It’s busy, it’s loud, and if you want to bounce between spots, this is the place to go.
Also, The Utility Expo's official street party, UTILITY ROCKS!, will be happening at 4th Street Live! on Wednesday, October 8 7:00PM - 10:00PM! Hearty breakfasts and brunch staples. If you need something filling before the show, this is a reliable spot with friendly service and big portions.
