Family with kids walking around The Utility ExpoThe Utility Expo is the main event - but if you're bringing the family along or extending your stay, there's plenty more to experience while you're in Louisville. Whether it’s your first time in town or you’ve been here before, Louisville delivers a great mix of hands-on fun, outdoor spots, and local experiences that both kids and adults will enjoy. With the show wrapping up at 5:00 PM Tuesday and Wednesday, and at 2:00 PM on Thursday, evenings offer a chance to explore, though some attractions close earlier and are better suited for non-show days.

Many attendees turn their time at the show into a mini family getaway—and with good reason. Louisville makes it easy to blend work and quality family time. Here’s a quick list of places to check out that the whole family will enjoy:

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

Baseball fans or not, this place is worth the visit. Located downtown, the museum gives a behind-the-scenes look at how the iconic bats are made—from raw wood to finished product.

You’ll check out exhibits on the history of the sport, see bats used by legends like Hank Aaron and Derek Jeter, and even get to hold one yourself. A free mini bat comes with every tour, making it a memorable stop for the kids.

Kentucky Science Center

Just a short walk from the Slugger Museum, this hands-on science center has three floors of interactive exhibits for all ages.

From building and engineering challenges to biology, space, and weather exploration, there’s something here for every curious mind. The attached IMAX-style theater often plays family-friendly documentaries and feature films in the evening.

Malibu Jack’s Indoor Theme Park

Got high-energy kids (or coworkers)? Malibu Jack’s is a go-to for indoor fun. You’ll find go-karts, laser tag, mini golf, a bowling alley, bumper cars, and a huge arcade—all under one roof. It’s clean, climate-controlled, and easy to access from most hotels near the Kentucky Exposition Center.

Louisville Zoo

Louisville, Kentucky, USA - Nov 20, 2016: The Louisville Zoo is a 134-acre naturalistic and mixed animal facility in Louisville, Kentucky. The zoo currently exhibits over 1,700 animals.A laid-back, well-kept zoo with over 1,700 animals across 130 acres. Exhibits like Glacier Run (polar bears and seals), Gorilla Forest, and the new sloth habitat are crowd favorites.

There’s also a splash area (weather-permitting), a playground, and a train ride that loops the park. It’s a great place to wind down and let the kids roam a bit while still learning along the way.

Big Four Bridge

This converted rail bridge turned pedestrian walkway stretches across the Ohio River and connects Louisville to Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The views are fantastic—especially at sunset—and the bridge lights up at night, making for a peaceful end to a busy day. Both sides offer riverside parks, local ice cream shops, and open green space, perfect for an evening stroll or a casual bite.

Louisville Mega Cavern

One of Louisville’s most unique attractions, this massive underground cavern spans 100 acres beneath the city. Adventure options include ziplining, a ropes course, tram tours, and even an underground bike park.

It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that’s big on adventure while still being safe and family-friendly.

Grab Dinner While You’re Out

Louisville’s dining scene offers everything from award-winning barbecue to quick, casual bites. The NuLu District (East Market Street) is especially popular for families, with walkable blocks full of restaurants, shops, and dessert spots.

Local favorites like Feast BBQ, Royals Hot Chicken, and Gralehaus are crowd-pleasers—and many offer kid-friendly menus without sacrificing flavor.
